Shaneka Henson SD-30

State Senator Shaneka Henson is a lifelong Annapolis resident, an attorney, and a dedicated public servant who made history as the first Black woman to represent Annapolis in the Maryland State Senate. Before joining the Senate, Henson served on the Annapolis City Council and represented her community in the House of Delegates, all while building a career as an attorney.

Voters like Shaneka Henson because:

  • She has prioritized expanding educational opportunities through both mentorship and scholarship, strengthening protections for renters and families, and tax relief for small businesses.
  • She is focused on reducing costs for working families, improving healthcare, housing and public safety, and ensuring every Marylander has the chance to succeed.

Voters are repelled by Jessica Haire because:

  • Haire is a corporate lawyer whose clients include big banks and lenders and defense contractors. She has defended companies accused by workers of failing to pay overtime, violating hiring laws, and failing to make required union pension payments. 56% of independents have doubts when hearing messaging on Haire’s corporate ties.
  • Haire is no moderate – she has contributed to extreme right wing candidates that oppose abortion rights and she wants to deny Maryland women the right to make their own health care decisions and deny them access to contraception and emergency healthcare services. Abortion is the most effective message among swing voters (61% total doubts)
  • Haire is a MAGA Republican who is too extreme for Maryland. Haire has praised Trump’s policies and stepped up to defend him after the January 6th insurrection. She has given thousands of dollars to extreme, rightwing Republicans who back Trump’s radical and dangerous policies and she supports tax breaks for corporations and billionaire CEOs while we are forced to pay higher prices. Trump’s fav/unfav in this district are 37%/61%. Support for MAGA scores second highest among swing voters (47% total doubts).

American Future will engage in this race from late September through late October.
