Chuck Cook HD-33B
Chuck Cook is a veteran, husband, and father. Because he grew up working class, Chuck will fight in Annapolis to raise workers’ wages and support small businesses in ways that create good jobs, opportunities, and stronger communities. He is committed to economic development that delivers for middle class families and will stand up to price gouging and big money interests.
Voters like Chuck Cook because he:
- Believes Marylanders should have access to quality housing. He will work to protect renters from greedy landlords, help first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance, and speed up the building of new housing by cutting unnecessary red tape. 79% of swing voters find messaging on Cook’s housing policies convincing as well as 67% of independent voters.
- Believes Maryland should be the nation’s leader in making healthcare affordable and accessible. He will work to reform the health care system by taking on the insurance companies to reduce premiums, stand up to PHARMA to stop prescription drug companies’ price gouging, and make sure patients and doctors determine care not insurance company executives. Two-thirds of voters respond to messaging on Cook’s positions related to healthcare, including 63% of swing voters.
Voters are repelled by Stuart Schmidt because:
- Stuart Schmidt is making life harder for middle-class families. In the General Assembly, he voted against expanding Maryland’s child tax credit and extending the state’s earned income tax credit. He also opposed bills to reduce Marylanders’ utility costs but did support legislation to allow utility companies to raise rates in order to pay executives higher salaries and bonuses. These issues raise doubts among 68% of swing voters and 95% of independent voters.
- Stuart Schmidt opposes abortion and the right of Maryland women to make their own health care decisions. Schmidt wrote legislation that mirrors the Texas state law, which prohibits an abortion after six weeks and has resulted in women being denied care during life-threatening emergencies. These issues raise doubts among 65% of swing voters and 52% of independent voters.
Stuart Schmidt supports defunding Maryland’s public schools and wants to privatize the education system allowing corporations to profit off our children. He voted against fixing outdated and unsafe school buildings and opposed raising taxes on the very wealthy to improve classroom education. This raises doubts with 56% of swing voters and 64% of independent voters.
American Future will engage in this race from late September to mid October.
