Learn more about Aja Kearney

Aja Kearney is a lifelong South Side resident, wife, and mother. At a young age, she developed a passion for public service by tagging along with her mother, an assistant to the late Alderman Lorraine Dixon, to community meetings and events. She served in the public defender’s office, worked for nearly a decade in local government, including for the Cook County Board President, has owned several small businesses, is a grassroots organizer in the Woodlawn community, and is the former Chair of the Cook County Young Democrats.

Now, Aja Kearney is running to represent us in the Illinois State House (HD34) so that she can work with Gov. Pritzker and Democrats to put Illinois families first.

PUBLIC SAFETY
Aja Kearney worked in the public defender’s office and knows the importance of a safe community and that residents should not be victimized by crime. She has coordinated meetings with citizens to meet with state and local authorities to help curb crime, and believes holding law enforcement accountable for our protection and safety is just as important as working together to protect neighborhoods.

EDUCATION
As a parent of a Chicago Public School student, Aja Kearney sees the challenges teachers face firsthand. She is an education advocate who has been an active member of local school councils and believes our community is stronger and better when all of us take responsibility for lifting up our children.

WORKING FAMILIES
Aja Kearney grew up in a working-class home with a father who was a proud union member. A union member herself, she understands firsthand the importance of organized labor and its role in protecting workers’ rights and equality. Aja will always fight for the workers’ rights, fairness and better wages.
